Could this be Hogwarts, or perhaps the inspiration for it? The architecture, history and traditions at University of Glasgow are reminiscent of an ancient university filled with a bit of mystery. It is the 4th oldest English-speaking university in the world, established in 1451, which makes 2026 its 575th anniversary! Notable alumni include Lord Kelvin of the Kelvin temperature scale, Adam Smith, father of modern economics and James McCune Smith, the first African American to earn a medical degree, at Glasgow in the mid-1800s. Innovations out of Glasgow include television, MRI, and ultrasound.

University of Glasgow’s motto, “World Changing Glasgow” indicates its ambition to be the best university FOR the world…not just in it. Professors are active researchers in their area of specialization, and undergraduates have the opportunity to get involved in research from their second year.
